Laser diopter removal has been around for 20 years, but people still have various misconceptions and sometimes wrong opinions about this procedure. There are many myths about laser diopter removal. Let's break some of them down.

Laser diopter removal is painful
It may be hard to believe, but the procedure itself is completely painless and pleasant for the patient. It takes about 10 minutes for both eyes, so people are usually surprised how quickly and easily everything went and realise that the fear they had before the procedure was unfounded. After the procedure, depending on the method, a burning sensation and mild irritation of the eye may be felt for several days. It is transient and harmless.
Anyone can undergo laser vision correction procedure
Although laser eye surgery can help with nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, not everyone is a good candidate. If you have a thin cornea, a diopter that the laser cannot remove or some eye damage, our doctors will recognise it and inform you. Other conditions that may be unsuitable for laser eye surgery include uncontrolled diabetes and certain autoimmune diseases.
''After the procedure, you will never need to wear glasses or contact lenses again''
When the laser removes the diopter, it no longer exists as such and cannot be returned. What the laser cannot do is prevent new diopters in later life (or senile farsightedness). Many people need to wear reading glasses after the age of 40, which can happen even after a laser procedure because as we mentioned earlier, laser cannot prevent new diopters from appearing.

The laser can burn the eye
When you think of lasers, it's only natural to think of science fiction and assume that they would be hot. It is not possible for the laser to "burn" your eyes. All laser methods use cold lasers. The surface of the eye (cornea) is precisely remodelled with a cold laser beam.
Recovery after the procedure is long
Recovery time depends on a number of factors, including the method you go for. Our doctor will take into account your private situation, occupation and working conditions and give you advice on when it is best to return to work. It is important to know that a few days after the procedure you wear protective lenses until the first check-up, which is 4 days after the procedure in our polyclinic. Average recovery time is one week.
