BLEPHAROPLASTY

Eyelid lifting or blepharoplasty is one of the most popular procedures in aesthetic surgery. By rejuvenating the eyes, the whole face is also rejuvenated, so the fact of such popularity is not surprising.

Over the years, the skin loses its elasticity and consistency, mostly in the area of the eyelids because it is the thinnest there. The eyelids begin to change their appearance because excess skin appears on them. such excess skin appears in the form of bags, folds and fat pads and gives the whole face a tired look.

Blepharoplasty is an eyelid correction surgery that can be performed on the upper and lower eyelids.

Eyelid lifting is the only procedure that can be performed under local anesthesia, and it gives an excellent result on the face, which achieves a fresh look without the appearance of fatigue.

ARE EYELID LIFTS ONLY FOR WOMEN?

Eyelid lifting is an equally common procedure in men as in women. The popularity of the procedure itself is great since it is a minor procedure that greatly improves the quality of life in addition to the appearance.

Age does not play a big role in this type of procedure, because the age at which significant changes in the eyelids begin is different from individual to individual. Sometimes it's simply a matter of facial structure. It depends on the genetically defined tissue quality, lifestyle (sun exposure, solarium, smoking...)

RECOVERY

Eyelid lifting is an outpatient procedure and the patient spends a total of 2 to 3 hours in the clinic, depending on whether only the upper or all four eyelids are operated on. Since the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, it is completely painless.

Complete recovery takes approximately 2 weeks, as long as it takes for the hematoma and swelling to resorb. One week after the procedure, the stitches are removed, and it is then possible to return to daily duties and work.

Recommendations:

• Avoid heat

• Sleep with the head elevated (to reduce the possibility of swelling and hematoma)

• Do not apply makeup for at least a few days after the procedure

• No physical activities for 2 weeks

SCARS

The skin on the eyelids heals much better than anywhere else on the body. One of the reasons is that the skin on the eyelids is extremely thin, and thin skin heals faster.

COMPLICATIONS

Although very rare, complications are possible as with any surgical procedure. Some of the possible complications are:

• Infection (treated with antibiotics)

• Hematoma

• Dry eyes (can be in patients who preoperatively already have problems with the same)

• Increased production of tears

AM I TOO YOUNG FOR THIS TYPE OF PROCEDURE?

As we have already mentioned in the text above, age does not play a significant role when it comes to lifting the eyelids. Fat pads on the lower eyelids sometimes appear in younger people as a congenital deformity, already in their 20s.

Sometimes the need arises already in the early 30s, while it is most often performed in people over 40 years old.

There is really no ideal age when this type of procedure can be performed; whenever we can achieve an adequate and good result.
