INNOVATIONS

DISC PROTOCOL

For the past 15 years dr.Knezovic has specialized in modern laser therapy for keratoconus. As part of his education, he visited many centers of excellence for treating keratoconus (Athens, Colombia, London, India, Berlin, etc.). In his clinic, he operated on numerous patients with various and until then the best surgical procedures for keratoconus, such as: Athens protocol, Cretan protocol, Cross Linking, Contact Lens Assist Cross Linking, Vet PTK procedure, etc. Based on extensive experience and tens of thousands of satisfied, operated patients, dr. Knezovic continuously researched and improved existing operating protocols. As a crown of many years of work and great experience, he patented his surgical method for treating patients suffering from keratoconus - the DISC Protocol (Decentered Individualised Spherocyndrical Protocol).

DISEASE STABILISATION

LONG TERM GOOD RESULTS

TRANSPARENT CORNEAL TISSUE

SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT OF VISUAL ACUITY

PATIENT SATISFACTION

DISC Protocol consists of two laser procedures and individually adapted Cross Linking for each patient. The advantages of this method are that the depth of laser penetration into the tissue of the cornea is smaller, the results of the procedure are more predictable and the radiation of each eye as part of the Cross - Linking procedure is carefully calculated and adjusted to the individual. Based on the experiences so far, the DISC Protocol gives surprisingly good results in some patients, and a high percentage of vision returns.

Dr. Knezovic presented the results of his prestigious and newly patented method at the international ophthalmology congress in Vodice on May 5, 2022, wrote a scientific paper that passed strict international reviews and was successfully published in an international journal - Decentered Individualized Sphero-Cylindrical (DISC) Ablation and Corneal Crosslinking in Patient with Progressive Keratoconus

In perfecting the method, Dr. Knezovic collaborated with experts from the Institute of Physics in Zagreb and developed software and predictive algorithms for laser procedures using innovative technologies for performing operative procedures in cooperation with company provining software solutions from Prague, Czech Republic.

The Croatian Community of Innovators gave an official evaluation of the operation DISC Protocol as an innovation, and classified it according to the level of novelty as a radical innovation, and according to the target market as an innovation for the global market.

ULTRASOUND CATARACT SURGERY – KARATE CHOP METHOD

In 2009, dr. Knezovic introduced the elite Karate chop method and Knezovic Eye Institute became the first clinic performing that method. This method is extremely gentle on the human eye, as it releases the least amount of ultrasound energy during the operation. The procedure itself is performed endoscopically, at 2.2 mm, without injection, outpatient and painless. The well-known world innovator in ophthalmology and the inventor of this method, prof. Agarwal, personally collaborated in the development of the method with Dr. Knezovic.

Knezovic Eye Institute

In 2012, dr. Knezovic intorduced the method without an incision on the eye, according to prof. Pallikaris. Knezovic Eye Institute is the only clinic in Croatia that ownes the Pallikaris brush and therefore, performs the NO CUT method. This method has numerous advantages over the LASIK method, because it does not weaken the corneal tissue, does not damage the tear film, does not create "high-order aberrations" or "exotic" diopters. Unlike the PRK method, alcohol is not used during the procedure, thus avoiding chemical damage to the underlying tissue. Also, there is no mechanical pressure on the cornea, which reduces potential risks during procedures for a short-term increase in eye pressure, such as retinal ablation.

The method that revolutionised laser vision correction - NO CUT

According to the latest research, this method also has a lower incidence of "haze" (cloudiness in the corneal tissue that reduces visual acuity), which is one of the most common side effects of the PRK method. After the procedure, it is not possible to see that the operation was ever done, that is, the eye looks "untouched". Prof. Pallikaris performed the first LASIK surgery in the world and is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions at the international level.

ATHENS PROTOCOL

In 2012, dr. Knezović introduced the Athens Protocol in the Knezovic Eye Institute. This revolutionary method of treating keratoconus retrieves visual acuity and stabilizes the diopter. Dr. Knezović completed special training in the field of laser treatment of keratoconus and individual laser treatments of irregular corneas (topo-guided procedures) with one of the most famous surgeons in the field, Professor Kanellopoulos, who works at the prestigious University of New York Medical School and is a global ambassador of Wavelight.
