IGOR KNEZOVIC, MD, Ph.D.

He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb in 1998 as the youngest student in his generation. He completed the mandatory medical service at the volunteer service of KBC Zagreb, and on December 1, 1999, he passed the state exam. Since April 1, 2001, he has been working as a volunteer associate in the work of Lions Croatian Eye Bank, all with the aim of developing a multidisciplinary approach in transplant medicine. He is an active member of teams in many multiorgan explants.

Igor Knezovic, MD, Ph.D.

In May 2003, he defended his master's thesis entitled "Effect of body dehydration and therapy with angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors on the serum concentration of stable nitric oxide products" and obtained the academic degree of Master of Science. He is actively involved in educational and scientific activities at the University of Zagreb and the University of Mostar.

Dr. Knezovic is a registered researcher in several scientific projects (eye immunology, eye banking network). He is the author and co-author of numerous scientific articles and lectures at domestic and international congresses (Istanbul, Munich, Berlin, Ljubljana, Nice, Amsterdam, London, Barcelona, etc.). In September 2005, his topic for a doctoral dissertation entitled "Evaluation and comparison of laminar and salivary disorders in patients with Sjogren's syndrome" was accepted, which he successfully defended in October 2008 and obtained the academic degree of Doctor of Science.

In June 2006, dr.Knezovic completed the specialist exam in ophthalmology and obtained the professional title of specialist in ophthalmology. As an invited lecturer, he taught:

He actively participated in a practical course for ultrasound cataract surgery, Bernek, Switzerland, 2006 and an educational course for diagnosing diseases of the last segment of the eye (Ljubljana, 2011). In 2008, dr. Knezovic received an international scholarship as a representative of young ophthalmologists from Eastern Europe. He attended several international workshops on contactology (Milan 2008, Warsaw 2009, Prague 2011).

Special education for laser diopter correction that took place in Cartagena and Barranquilla, Colombia, in 2008 with dr. Carriazu, one of the world's most famous ophthalmologists in the field of laser diopter correction played a great part in becoming one of the best experts in this field of ophtalmology after which, dr. Knezovic successfully completed the International Course of Laser Vision Correction (LASIK) in Mumbai (India, 2009) and Ultrasonic Cataract (PHACO) in Chennai (India, 2009) with Dr. Agarwal, one of the greatest innovators in ophthalmology in general, who also trained him personally. After his education, dr. Knezovic became a pioneer of these interventions in the institutions where he was employed before founding Knezovic Eye Institute.

In 2011, University of Bjelovar offered him an academic title as a lecturer at department of ophthalmology. Dr. Knezovic now has a senior lecturer title and still educates young colleagues at the University.

In 2012, he completed special training in the field of keratoconus laser treatment and topo-guided procedures for superior guided procedures with Professor Kanellopoulos, one of the most famous surgeons in the field, who is employed by a prestigious medical school in New York and is a global ambassador of Wavelight In 2015, he became an internationally licensed surgeon on the iFS laser platform for advanced laser correction of diopters using a femtosecond laser. He speaks fluent English, uses German, Slovenian, Italian and Norwegian. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the European Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS), the European Association of Eye Banks (EEBA), the Croatian Medical Association, the Croatian Medical Association, the Croatian Ophthalmological Society (HOD) and the Croatian Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (CSCRS).

Dr. Knezovic has written and published a scientific paper (case report) in one of the world's largest publishing consortia, with strict international review (Hindawi Publishing Corporation, Acceptance rate about 30%), under the name:

"Late Stage of Corneal Decompensation Caused by Progressive Keratoconus: Can We Treat It and Save the Cornea?"

This is a patient with progressive keratoconus in both eyes, with a decompensated and extremely thin cornea, whose disease we managed to stop, regularize the cornea and significantly improve visual acuity.

  • Special attention should be paid to topographic images before and after, where a significant regularisation of the corneal surface can be observed, as well as visual acuity, which has improved after the procedure.

  • Topographically guided laser operations are suitable for patients with irregular (irregular) astigmatism, such as: keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, corneal scars, post-injury or corneal transplant conditions, etc.

DR. KNEZOVIC INTRODUCES NEW METHODS IN THE TREATMENT OF DRY EYE
