How to prevent eye diseases with food?

Updated: Oct 5, 2022

A healthy diet is the basis of health in general. Eye care is complex and includes more than one component, and a part of that mosaic is a variety of proper food for eye health. "What to eat?" is a question that many ask. Some of the best foods for your eyes are:

Kale

• Lutein and zeaxanthin are two nutrients found in leafy green vegetables, including kale. Lutein and zeaxanthin help protect the eye from oxidative damage by absorbing the harmful blue lights. These nutrients have been found to lower the risk and protect the eyes from age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Salmon

• Salmon, tuna, and sardines are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. Diets rich in fatty acids can have a wide variety of benefits for eye health; lowering the risk of developing AMD and improving dry eve symptoms.

Blueberries

• Blueberries have one of the highest sources of antioxidants. Antioxidants are beneficial in

neutralising the damaging free radicals that occur throughout the body. Protecting the eye from the free radicals may help counteract the damages that can cause visual impairment like AMD.

Citrus

• Vitamin C, found high in oranges, grapefruits, lemons, and tangerines can help delay or prevent the onset of cataracts and AM. Vitamin C promotes healthy blood vessels all over the body, including the tiny blood vessels found in the retina. Our body is unable to produce Vitamin C ourselves so we must obtain it from our diet.

Carrots • The most famous food when it comes to the impact of food on eye health. Influence It is rich in vitamin A, which has a positive effect on the retina - the part of the eye that contains photoreceptors that transmit signals to the brain. Broccoli • vegetables rich in antioxidants and vitamins. It is rich in vitamins A, E and C, which together form an ideal combination for better vision. Spinach • serves as protection against macular degeneration - one of the leading causes of loss of central visual acuity in old age, and night blindness. Eggs • contain vitamin A, contribute to better retina health and are food for eye health. Also, an incredible source of antioxidants that have been proven to reduce the risk of eye diseases can be found in strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. Nuts • are rich in vitamin E, which reduces the progression of cataract development and macular degeneration. Parsley • is a natural tonic for "cleaning" the eye. Parsley contains lutein and zeaxanthin, which have a synergistic effect and in combination protect the eye from harmful UV radiation. Dark chocolate • contains flavonoids that help protect the blood vessels of the eyes by strengthening the cornea and eye lens. In order to be effective, it must contain at least 60% cocoa extract to achieve the maximum level of usefulness. Garlic and onion • are rich in sulfur, which has a beneficial effect on eye health. Sulfur strengthens the eye lens and makes it more resistant. Magnesium • important in the conduction of nerves as well as in the expansion of blood vessels and in maintaining blood flow to the eyes and brain, especially in elderly people with macular degeneration or diabetes. It is very important to eat fish frequently to maintain healthy vision due to the fact that fish contains a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids. Regular consumption of omega-3 fatty acids protects the small blood vessels in the eye. It is best to consume salmon and sardines. Other foods that are useful to keep your eyes healthy: • pumpkin • tomatoes • avocado • papaya • apricot • green apple • green tea
